Proportional fair scheduling with superposition coding in a cellular cooperative relay system - Invited paper

چکیده
Many works have tackled on the problem of throughput and fairness optimization in cellular cooperative relaying systems. Considering firstly a two-user relay broadcast channel, we design a scheme based on Superposition Coding (SC) which maximizes the achievable sum-rate under a Proportional Fairness (PF) constraint. Unlike most relaying schemes where users are allocated orthogonally, our scheme serves the two users simultaneously on the same time-frequency resource unit by superposing their messages into three SC layers. The optimal power allocation parameters of each SC layer are derived by analysis. Next, we consider the general multi-user case in a cellular relay system, for which we design resource allocation algorithms based on Proportional Fair Scheduling (PFS) exploiting the proposed SC based scheme. Numerical results show that, the proposed algorithms allowing simultaneous user allocation outperform conventional schedulers based on orthogonal user allocation, both in terms of throughput and proportional fairness. These results indicate promising new directions for the design of future radio resource allocation and scheduling algorithms.

Fairness-Aware Superposition Coded Scheduling for a Multi-User Cooperative Cellular System
We consider Downlink (DL) scheduling for a multi-user cooperative cellular system with fixed relays. The conventional scheduling trend is to avoid interference by allocating orthogonal radio resources to each user, although simultaneous allocation of users on the same resource has been proven to be superior in, e.g., the broadcast channel. Therefore, we design a scheduler where in each frame, t...
متن کاملCooperative communication using mobile relays with α-proportional fair scheduling
In this paper, a cooperative relaying system with α-proportional fair scheduling is proposed for multi-carrier systems. The cooperative relaying provides ’virtual’ MIMO through combining the signals from the source and the relay at the destination in addition to the advantage of the simple relaying which reduces path-loss attenuation in the air interface. We have adopted the α-proportional fair...

This paper addresses downlink cooperation at a system level. Cooperation between Base Stations is an alternative to macrodiversity to provide QoS continuity in case of mobility. We propose a Radio Resource Management strategy for the relay channel, made of relayed users identification, resource allocation and power control in an OFDMA-based system. Four scheduling methods are tested for power a...
متن کاملIncentive Mechanism Design for Selfish Hybrid Wireless Relay Networks
Non-cooperative behaviors in communication networks can significantly adversely affect the entire network. Recently, researchers have begun to study such non-cooperative communication systems within a game theory framework and strive to engineer the system to prevent performance degradation under non-cooperative behaviors. The WWAN/WLAN two-hop-relay system described in [1] integrates two types...
متن کاملCooperative Orthogonal Space-Time-Frequency Block Codes over a MIMO-OFDM Frequency Selective Channel
In this paper, a cooperative algorithm to improve the orthogonal space-timefrequency block codes (OSTFBC) in frequency selective channels for 2*1, 2*2, 4*1, 4*2 MIMO-OFDM systems, is presented. The algorithm of three node, a source node, a relay node and a destination node is formed, and is implemented in two stages. During the first stage, the destination and the relay antennas receive the sym...
